A Nashville-based physician network startup backed by local investment firm Martin Ventures has named former Humana Deputy Chief Medical Officer Worthe Holt as chief executive officer.

Holt will replace Devin Carty, CEO of Martin Ventures, who will transition to serve as company chairman. Martin Ventures led a $4.5 million funding round for Wellvana Health in 2018 to launch the startup with a more than 250-physician network. The company originated in San Antonio and has since expanded into Nashville and Phoenix.

Holt has more than 30 years of clinical and operational leadership in health care, most recently overseeing the Louisville-based insurance giant’s physician enterprise and managing its value-based care strategy. Prior to Humana, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer of St. Vincent Health System in Indiana.

“Wellvana is founded on the principles of supporting primary care and specialty physicians in remaining independent by empowering them with the capital, human resources, contracts and technology to thrive in a value-based world,” said Charlie Martin, founder of Wellvana and chairman of Martin Ventures. “Dr. Holt’s demonstrated leadership in healthcare operations, value-based care and managed care will help scale Wellvana through the next stage of growth.”
